AZ Chess Gurus: 2025 OTB Tournament Recap

AZ Chess Gurus hosted a successful tournament on December 6th at the Unity Chess Club venue, drawing 42 players across three sections. The event also served as a fundraiser for Global Grace Health, which provides affordable cancer screenings worldwide.

We appreciate Unity Chess Club for providing the venue and supporting this event. The tournament was primarily organized and led by Amudan Mangudi and Rushil, whose effort and coordination made the entire event possible. From planning logistics and managing registrations to ensuring everything ran smoothly on the day of the tournament, they played a major role in its success.

Open Section:

After 4 hard-fought rounds FM Jayden Lee and Rohan Mittal emerged victorious to take shared 1st and 2nd place with 3.5 points. Behind them, were FM Pedram Atoufi, Artin Atoufi, and Joshua Lee with 3 points. Thank you to all of our masters and participants in the Open Section!

Under 1800 Section:

Eric Gan topped the U1800 Section with a dominant 3.5/4, claiming clear first place. Under 1400 Section:

The U1400 Section came down to the wire, with Vidyuth Atreya and Elliot Glatman, at 3.5 points, sharing the top spot in a tie for 1st and 2nd place. Just behind them, Samik Mathur, Rithvik Sachesh, and Alejandro Ortiz Olivas all finished level in a three-way tie for 3rd at 3 points. Thank you to all of our U1400 participants!

Unrated Section:

The Unrated Section wrapped up with Matthew Register claiming clear 1st place, followed by Vivia Powers in 2nd. Yi-Cheng (Eason) Lu rounded out the podium with a solid 3rd place finish. Thank you to all of our Unrated Section participants!
